On Sunday November 6, a group of Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ volunteers hosted a community dinner for Yuułuʔiłʔatḥ First Nation citizens. The intent behind the gathering was to simply provide the opportunity to sit down with friends and family, enjoy a meal and spend time together. A group of five citizens cooked a feast of chicken, salmon, halibut, rice, chili, roasted potatoes, roasted carrots, pasta salad, potato salad, mixed greens and a platter of desserts.
Approximately 50 citizens attended the dinner with several others sending regrets for not being able to attend.
The event provided the opportunity to discuss other potential social events with community members, such as a Christmas Eve dinner and a New Year’s party and how we all have the desire to see more community events and gatherings happen that will continue to help unite the community and bring us all closer together.
One of the elders in our group requested that the RCMP provide a short presentation to the community on community safety and tips to help keep crime out of Hitacu. It was very well received and was a nice addition to the theme of strengthening the community.
We graciously thank the Clayoquot Biosphere Trust for the grant that made this event possible. All of the funds were used to purchase the food, much to the appreciation of 45 guests and 5 volunteers who were sent home with a happy tummy!
ƛ’ee koo ƛ’ee koo! (Thank you, Thank you!)
