Streets for Everyone is an initiative aimed at highlighting the environmental, social, economic, safety, livability, and other rationale for designing our streets with all uses and users in mind.
We envision a Vancouver where every street is a lively impromptu gathering place; designed so that people can socialize, travel comfortably, and enjoy spending time. Our goal is to inspire our community members to envision the incredible potential of our streets, our most plentiful public spaces, and to empower them to think of our streets as more than avenues for cars. We believe there is a lack of education that is accessible, engaging, researched & fun, about the benefits of human-centric street designs that are safe & inclusive of all uses & modes of transportation. Our solution is to create a set of free resources covering the topic & to share them with community members at fun & creative community outreach events.
By providing a real world example of how fun and vibrant are streets can be, directly engaging with the community on these issues, we can empower and encourage community members to envision and create better public spaces. The information we seek to share is about how we can make our communities closer, safer, & more livable.
Our events will be an opportunity for neighbours to meet, eat, play, and engage with one another. Moreover, we will inspire them to think of how streets that are safe for all uses and forms of transportation make communities closer, safer, and more livable.
Come check out our launch at Car Free Day on Sunday, June 15 on Commercial Drive between 3rd and 4th Ave to see our big installation demonstrating potential design changes to Commercial Drive that would make it more inclusive, sustainable, and community-oriented. We will also have fun interactive games and things to do!
