The third annual Apple Harvest Festival was held on
Sunday October 21 from 4-5:30 to celebrate the arrival of autumn and to meet new friends and neighbourhood members.
The schedule was:
4:00 – introductions and crafts
4:30 – live music from local banjo player (and accordion)
5:00 – food and celebration
5:30 – clean up
Music was donated (honourarium) by professional musicians. Food was supplied (purchased) by a local First Nation’s bannock caterer, whose children also stayed to participate in the event. It was also important that the chef was able to present the food and describe how it was made as the bannock has a special significance to the First Nation’s community. The crafts were food-related and facilitated by a local parent. The location was along the Fraser River in SE Vancouver.
For the future, I would recommend more advertisement and word of mouth, or social media presence, and a more central location (such as the original intended location, the Fraser River District). Overall, it was very fun for all the participants and it was great to new people interacting with each other. Everybody had a delightful time.
