Dolmades making demo using fresh picked grape leaves from the vine was the starting point for this fun and educational project. Residents of New Westminster are offering tours and workshops showing how to grow, use and preserve food in an urban setting. The garden is located at in New Westminster and consists of 3 neighbouring yards. We have organized a group of 4 families to tend the garden.
Together, we want to:
Advocate local food sources
Model and share urban gardening skills with the community
ducate about food security and ecosystem sustainability
uild greater ties amongst neighbours and with the larger community by pairing with local organizations to share all of the above
All of the tours and other educational programs are free to the public and will be held in the garden itself or a local venue. A Canning worksshop will provide a sample of the finished product to take home and a instruction sheet on basic canning as well as a recipe (or two).
