We used the Vancouver Neighbourhood Small Grants funding to purchase a waterproof, rust-proof, dent-proof toy box for our community playground. We worked with the City of New Westminster to agree upon an appropriate location for the box and then had a launch day in May with neighbours. Some of the funds were used to purchase toys, and other toys have been donated.
We continue to maintain the toybox regularly by sorting through toys that are no longer ‘playable’ and cycling in new toys, cleaning out wood chips, organizing, etc.
It is wonderful to see so many kids enjoying the toys in the box. It allows families to come and play together and kids can meet new friends as they share.
