The Event was a Fraser River Clean Up inspired by my children’s interest in helping the environment and cleaning up the garbage that they see/saw in the water.
The event was a gathering that followed this schedule on
Sunday October 14th, 2018.
4 – gather/intro by the Fraser River along the Boardwalk
4:15- river clean up and play (using garbage tongs, buckets, and rented equipment from a friend’s company)
4:45 – debrief about the garbage collected (facilitated by a local parent)
5:00 – Food and Drink and enjoyment at an indoor rented location (Tugboat Lounge on Kent St. South)
5:30 – Clean up
The event was attended by many passer-by’s from the community (approximately 30 people in the duration of the time there). Together, we collected 5 buckets of garbage, and the children had a good time outside. It was advantageous that the rented location was right beside the river so that people could easily move from outside to the indoor refreshment area.
The children were very proud of the work that they did!
Because many of the families were new to us (and passer by’s from the community, we did not take many pictures).
