Interested residents of Marpole and neighbouring districts met at Ebisu Park in Marpole eager to explore the region during a historical/heritage walking tour throughout Marpole, one of the oldest districts in Vancouver, rich in diverse geographical, archaeological, and cultural heritage. At any given time, there were 22 – 25 residents in attendance throughout the tour.
The tour was led by a personable and down to earth fellow, Bruce Macdonald, a local historian and author of ‘Vancouver, |A Visual History.’ He informed, intrigued, and entertained us with facts, figures, stories, and quite possibly a touch of folk lore. It kept us interested, like a good mystery.
Once over, participants were invited to gather at Wick’s Cafe in the heart of Marpole’s apartment district to share conversation with other participants, the organizers, and the tour leader over finger food and beverages.
As an organizer of the event, I felt that it was an enjoyable event and believe that it accomplished the goal of providing an opportunity for like minded community members to gather and engage with each other while discovering a little more about the neighbourhood they call home.
