“Safe neighbourhoods aren’t built, they are made safe by the people who live in them”
We have lived in our community for 10 years. Unfortunately, we hardly know our neighbours. With a block party on June 30, 2014 on Main Street between 53rd and 54th Ave. will bring people together, build stronger connections & improve relationships in our neighbourhood.
Celebrate: 1) Canada Day, 2) Diversity – through shared art, culture, cooking, etc. A sense of ownership and pride built by inviting neighbors to make meaningful contributions such as a potluck dish, teach a craft/art piece, wear cultural fashion, story-tell, musical performances, etc. Include all ages – children, youth, adults, seniors
Caring: 1) We hope to build trust, promote desires of starting a block watch, 2) Maintain green standards – reducing waste and energy use, use local small businesses & locally sourced products, bring own cups, plates & utensils, 3)Cleaning up back lanes after party
It is our hope to be able to create a memorable event and be able to start a new tradition.
