A free community event fostering understanding, support and awareness for those living with Parkinson’s.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/painting-for-parkinsons-2019-tickets-65963004121

This event will bring those living with Parkinson’s disease (PD) together with friends, family, neighbours and the community to share a fun, enriching and stimulating experience. Many physical and cognitive symptoms of PD can be addressed by engaging in a creative process such as painting – wellness through the arts! No painting experience necessary.

This event also aims to help bring relief of some of the symptoms of PD. Some people with the disease “hide” out at home so we hope to encourage the participants to feel active and part of the community. Participants will also meet others affected with PD and hopefully make connections and friendships.

Painters will feel proud to produce a work of art to bring home – this year a 12 x 12 canvas representation of Canadian folk artist Maud Lewis’s “Birds” led by local artist Ceci Lam.

Ceci has been creating art since the age of 6; her subjects range from landscape to florals, portraits, and animals. She loves to paint pet portraits and also teaches fine art classes in oil and cold wax as well as mixed media. http://www.cecilam.com/

Organized by Robyn Murrell and Heidi Clarkson, sisters and longtime New West residents.

This event is possible due to a New Westminster Neighbourhood Small Grant and Vancouver Foundation. Thank you to OPUS Art Supplies for donating the canvases and Tim Hortons at New West Station for suppling the light refreshments.
