Recycling plastic bags was the initial purpose of the project.
During the evolution of this project involving the building manager, we realized the main problem was still the environmental conscious of people. The organic bin was, every day, with plastic bags inside.
So, it was decided to start with HELPING people getting used to the habit of NOT DISPOSING PLASTIC INTO THE ORGANIC BIN.
The action and project were simple, and the initial results are being successful.
The building (with the financial help of the GREEN project) gave to each apartment a pack, with 10 units of ECO paper bag. At the moment of delivery, as well with some advertisement around the building, the importance of avoiding the plastic and disposing them at the appropriated place were explained.
The cost of each pack is $6.48; there are 88 units at the building, considering the taxes, plus the advertisement material and pickup costs; we invested around $595.00.
Hopefully we will reach the expected result and the next step we will work on recycling the plastic bags.
