Serenade for Seniors brings together the very young with the very old. The Graham Montessori Daycare and the Royal City Manor long-term care facility are across the street from each other — but they might as well be miles apart. Until this project began, they had never even met.
Serenade for Seniors brings these two diverse groups together and engages them with song and dance. The children will perform a concert for the seniors. Why music? Because music is a great leveller and studies have shown that people with cognitive challenges respond to music.
It’s hoped that this grant will be the start of a magical, inter-generational relationship between the young and the elderly — many of whom come from diverse backgrounds. Many seniors don’t have young family members; many of the children don’t have grandparents close by.
