Did you know that all of the water which goes into the storm drains in our streets and lanes flows directly into English Bay untreated? As residents of the West End we all enjoy the beach and the waters of English Bay but there are also whole populations of wildlife which call the ecosystem home. As population pressures increase in the West End more and more garbage and pollution ends up going down the storm drains and directly into English Bay. You can make a difference by helping to raise awareness of this pollution hazard and the dangers it poses to local wildlife, especially salmon. Come join us this Saturday, September 27 3-5pm in the plaza in front of the Gordon Neighborhood House. We will mark nearby storm drains with a bright yellow fish image and a phrase such as “Drains to Wildlife Habitat.” We will have information to post inside the centres and to share with our neighbors as we engage them while marking the storm drains.
