The gratitude Graffiti project is a forty day practice of purposeful appreciation of one’s life through interactive art. The project engages the community to:
Contemplate a source of gratitude in their lives and then
Provide an outlet to be able to express that thought of thankfulness.
These outlets act as ‘reminders’ or GRATITUDE STOPS, where a person, walking by, can mentally note something they are grateful for or to take it a step further and give a gift to our community by actually writing what they are grateful for that day on a “Gratitude Graffiti” wall: at the local library, local store front windows or school.
The Gratitude Graffiti Project is based on a simple concept, supported by positive psychology research and literature that one of the most important steps to wellness and happiness is to assume a daily practice of gratitude and to feel part of a community. Our project creates THE REMINDER by utilizing community hubs to creatively engage each passerby and member of the community to take a moment to be grateful for a minimum of 40 days.
Gratitude can be contagious. We believe that when we share what we are grateful for, we create that communal feast in which our humble gratitude is the best gift we could give.
The interactive art is a new way that allows participants to creatively show their thankfulness – an anonymous gift we may hide within ourselves but may mean the world to someone who will read it. You never know whose world you will touch by expressing gratitude.
