Sibling team Alexa (27) Isaac (17) and Quentin Bennett Fox (15) are longtime New Westminster residents with a passion for community activism and reading. With the support of a Neighbourhood Small Grant, they are building 4 pop-up libraries to be installed throughout the city.
By creating micro-libraries, accessible to anyone, at any time, this project will promote neighbourhood cohesion while using public space in new ways. Our enclosed, waterproof micro-libraries will function with a ‘have a book, leave a book; need a book, take a book’ philosophy. They will be community hubs that encourage reusing, and of course, reading! We will launch our Pop-Up Library Project with a kick-off event that will bringing readers of all ages together to celebrate books and writers.
There are currently 2,500 pop-up libraries around the world; this is growing movement.
