The Block Watch Party was for Solar West strata residents to socialize and sign up for Block Watch. Snacks (hot dogs, donuts, lemonade) were provided. The Vancouver Police motorcycle squad attended, a great draw for adults and children alike. People could get a free bike tuneup by one owner. Children could paint bird houses, colour, play games and then hit the pinata at the end (great fun!). Free seeds from Bees Matter had us set up an information table about bees, plants they like, and gardening – it was of great interest. Adults’ names were entered into a draw for various prizes, some bought with grant money, others donated from community businesses. All could meet the strata council and Block Watch team. It was an inclusive, friendly event that enabled people to meet neighbours, something generally lacking in our busy, isolated, modern lives.

Neighbourhood Small Grants

We believe the best people to effect change in a community are the ones within it. And when we can make money less of an issue in doing so, it allows so many more kinds of ideas to shine.
