Our Grade 7, and Kindergarten Classes made 6 raised bed gardens from raw wood with Russ from Tupper High School. Then we filled the boxes with soil and planted vegetables, a butterfly garden, herbs and flower with our 90 member JQ Nature Club and other students and community helpers.
This is an on-going Community Garden and the JQ Nature Club meets every 2nd Friday to weed, plant and look after the garden. This builds knowledge of organic food growing and encourages healthy eating. We also have many neighbourhood families spend time at our school and enjoyed the gardens, too.
We are now embarking on a new plan to have Murals painted by our students that we can attached to the sides of our Raised Bed Gardens to highlight the Gardens and show that they were planted by students.

Neighbourhood Small Grants

We believe the best people to effect change in a community are the ones within it. And when we can make money less of an issue in doing so, it allows so many more kinds of ideas to shine.
