In mid-August, 30 neighbours on the block shared a potluck lunch to celebrate summer. There were young families and long time residents who attended. Extra plants from our gardens were available for anyone who wanted them. With the Neighbourhood Small Grants money we purchased garlic bulbs to encourage interest in vegetable gardening. We also talked about composting and a composter from the City of Vancouver was given away in a draw.
The Garden Block Party gave an opportunity for neighbours to get to know each other and have a conversation. With a garden theme we hoped to bring awareness of plants that enrich our neighourhood.
