This free event will bring those affected by Parkinson’s disease (PD) together to share a fun, enriching and stimulating experience. Many physical and cognitive symptoms of PD can be addressed by engaging in a creative process such as painting – wellness through the arts! No painting experience needed.
This event also aims to help bring relief of some of the symptoms of PD. Some people with the disease “hide” out at home so we hope to encourage the participants to feel active and part of the community. Participants will also meet others affected with PD and hopefully make connections and friendships.
Painters will feel proud to produce a work of art to bring home – a 12 x 12 canvas representation of artist Iris Mes-Low “Tulips”. The tulip has been the worldwide symbol of Parkinson’s disease since April 11, 2005.
Although this event was inspired to reach those living with PD, we will include anyone in the community who wants to join us – others such as families, friends, neighbours etc. Painting for Parkinson’s will be free and welcome to all. Another positive aspect of this event is that it will increase awareness of Parkinson’s that will foster understanding and support.
IMPORTANT: We have room for 40 painters (those with a Parkinson diagnosis) and 40 others (Others can be the painter’s significant other {family member, friend, neighbour} or community member). Others attending can enjoy the event by supporting their painter, mingling, touring the Studio and learning about Parkinson’s. The event includes all the art supplies and light refreshments/snacks (donated by Wayne Corlett, one of the amazing volunteers at Rock Steady Boxing New West and owner of Tim Hortons New West Skytrain).
