Earthquake and Emergency preparedness
This was the second in the series of events at Highbury Tower organized with the support of the Small Grant Program.
We were lucky to get Abdul, a personable presenter from the City of Vancouver Neighbourhood Emergency Preparedness Program for the evening.
Abdul came equipped with plenty of materials on why and how to prepare.
News of the recent windstorm and power outages as well as the oil spillage in English Bay meant that people had heard about plenty of unexpected situations very close to home.
We were shown how to put together:
a 10-step family Emergency Plan,
a grab-and-go kit
an emergency food and water home kit
an emergency pet kit
and an emergency car kit
This was a lively evening, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions and to have a look at the examples of emergency supplies on display, while having a coffee with neighbours.
We were particularly happy to welcome guests from a neighbouring strata who hope to stage a similar event in their building.
