The 2024 100 Mile Pride and Pride in the Park events were a huge success! We had a team of six individuals working together to plan for the event. Planning began months ago and it was incredible to see everyone’s hard work come together. There was a parade down the main street in town and a four-hour festival in Centennial Park in 100 Mile House, BC. There were performers, local vendors, food trucks, and entertainment. The event attracted about 500 people.
Planning included things like: booking performers, booking vendors, coordinating with volunteers, obtaining rentals, corresponding with the district, obtaining insurance, purchasing merchandise, setting up a booth, etc. We worked with the district to secure the location, organized things like garbage disposal, shade structures, cool down stations, water stations, activities for kids, set up crew, clean up crew, and more.
The single largest obstacle that we faced was one of our team members experiencing a family emergency just days before the event. With them unable to attend the event, the rest of the team had to step in to take over the responsibilities of that individual which included volunteer coordination of over 20 volunteers. The team did an excellent job of picking up where they left off and any minor errors were quickly corrected and went unnoticed by the attendees. Overall, it was an incredible show of teamwork and flexibility.
The feedback we received after the event was spectacular. We were able to provide an inclusive space for folks to celebrate diversity and inclusivity. Folks brought their children and pets to enjoy the events. We had members of our local as well as provincial government present. We spoke to people who travelled from all over BC to attend the event. One of the food trucks had such a successful day that they ran out of food an hour before the event was over. There was even an article written in the local newspaper!
It truly was spectacular and we are very grateful for the support of Neighbourhood Small Grants. We honoured your contribution by including your logo on the poster and giving you shout-outs with the rest of our key contributors during the day’s events. We are planning to
take out some add space in the local paper to say a big thank you to everyone and we will include your logo again.
A heartfelt thank you for believing in us and we hope to work together again in the future.
