This year’s pig roast was a total success. Everybody had a great time, as always. There was a lot of food and friends, and fun was had by all.
We made plans in the spring, decided on where it would be held, what size suckling pig to get, who would be in charge of handing out notices, Facebook posts, applying for the grant, purchasing what was needed, etc…. We have an ongoing list from years prior that is really helpful to follow.
Notices get handed out door to door by 2 or 3 people, someone builds an events page and posts it on the neighbourhood Facebook page. This way, by doing both, everybody gets notified of the date, time, and location of the roast. We all bring a side dish, and we even put up a notice on the event page of who is bringing what!
This type of event fosters camaraderie among neighbours. It allows children to grow up in a neighbourhood where they know the adults, and that the adults look out for them and they know if they get hurt, they can go to any house to get help.
