Our project was to convene meetings and circulate a survey to our neighbours to determine what improvements we would like to see in our local park.  It went very well! These events were a great opportunity for fellowship amongst neighbours who had never met. We hade wine and a charcuterie board at the first meeting and the second meeting, held in the morning was coffee and muffins.

We had lots of participation and great suggestions were considered. Now I will write a report and send it to the SCRD Parks department with a request that they consider our suggestions.

The park adjacent to our cul-de-sac neighbourhood is in very sad condition. The children’s playground comprises of a rusty metal slide and a swing set over ground covered in pebbles. The grass area is often submerged under puddles and the path through the forest has deep ruts and exposed roots. Our Neighbourhood Association decided we should hold some meetings and conduct a survey to see what improvements people would like. We hosted an initial meeting to discuss issues and ideas. An email was sent out to people who could not attend so we could get their suggestions. A second meeting discussed in detail each of the submitted suggestions for improvement. Those in attendance received 3 coloured dots to vote for their top choices. Some choose to put all theirs dots in one suggestion! A survey was then sent out to the neighbours who could not attend that second meeting. The votes were tallied identifying the top three suggestions. A report has been drafted that is going to all the members for a final review and comment and then it will be sent to SCRD Parks Department. This report will identify our top three suggestions for the park but will also have everyone’s suggestions in an appendix.
