Sparks Through Arts was a family-centered art workshop that took place at the Richmond Arts Center Creativity Lab in November, 2024. The holiday print making workshop was facilitated by an art teacher and brought families of children ages 8-11 together in a fun, safe, and relaxed environment.
We were fortunate to secure the Creativity Lab on short notice and received a lot of support from the Richmond Arts Center staff. Planning and collaboration with the community enabled successful planning for the venue, art supplies, art teacher, and attracting participants. Phoenix Art Supplies provided the supplies & rentals and referred us to an art facilitator.
One of the challenges included securing event insurance for the workshop. It seemed like a daunting task and I wasn’t sure if requiring event insurance at the venue would disqualify the project. However, after consulting with the Richmond Cares staff member, clarification was obtained and together, an action plan was created. This allowed me the confidence to continue planning for the art workshop.
In addition to collaborating with community partners and stakeholders, the participants were also members of our local community. Word of mouth advertising allowed us to fill the 25 spots for our Sparks Through Arts workshop in no time!
It was a memorable, cozy, and inspiring rainy Saturday afternoon. Participants walked away with their holiday print creations and renewed sense of belonging and creativity.
