On July 5, 2025, our Sunnymede neighbourhood came together in the front shared common area of our complex for our first annual Block Watch BBQ Party. Thanks to the support of the Small Neighbourhood Grant Program – Richmond, neighbours of all ages—from 11 to 90 years old—gathered to enjoy a sunny afternoon of food, fun, friendship and Block Watch knowledge sharing.
Everyone contributed to make the event a success: men fired up the BBQ, grilling beef steaks, chicken, and salmon to perfection; women and kids helped with setting up tables, decorations, and later, tidying up. A fresh spread of salads, seasonal fruits and cold drinks balanced the hearty meal, and the highlight was the homemade desserts thoughtfully prepared by our self-managed strata manager and treasurer, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the day.
Throughout the afternoon, we played music that created a lively and welcoming atmosphere, and neighbours took a bunch of photos together to capture the happy moments. It was wonderful to see residents chatting, laughing, and building stronger connections—all of which help keep our community safe and closely knit through the Block Watch program.
This event reminded us of the importance of coming together, looking out for each other, and celebrating the diverse ages and backgrounds that make our neighbourhood special. We’re grateful to the Small Neighbourhood Grant – Richmond for their support and to every neighbour who helped make this gathering so memorable. We look forward to many more events that bring our community closer year after year.
