In this day and age, most people don’t really get to know their neighbours, but it’s important! They’re right next to you, and there are so many stories to be shared about the neighbourhood. With so many people new to the neighbourhood, we thought we would bring everyone together, and it was a true success.
We delivered flyers to approximately 40 houses on the street and asked for RSVPs so we could account for any allergies or dietary choices. Bulk purchasing and price matching were key this year! The neighbours were more than willing to help, and many brought desserts, sides or extras to complement what was there. Everyone brought out their tables, chairs, plates and BBQs, whatever was needed that we forgot.
Rain wasn’t in the forecast, but we persevered when the storm started. Since everyone was so close, we all ran to grab a little tent to shelter the food, extra umbrellas, and the kids made a fort with tents and tarps!
Many new people met and became fast friends. Everyone said this MUST happen next year! We know several didn’t come due to delayed summer plans and the unexpected rain. Also, several are moving into the neighbourhood soon, so we hope next year’s gathering will be even bigger!!
