Another successful Nakusp Harvest ‘n Heritage Fall Fair, with thanks to the Neighbourhood Small Grants program! Your support was the glue to hold ever-more community stakeholders together, and this year was the best yet. With events running from a loonie treasure hunt, to sumo suit wrestling, to a petting zoo, zucchini car race, and of course, a blue ribbon event, there was plenty for all ages to see and do. Importantly, it also provided a platform for other non-profit and charity organizations, and the local food bank and other food security organizations, as well as recreation groups, were able to connect with the public in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.

Again, the Neighbourhood Small Grant was the kickstart to make this all happen. While the event was free to attend, and groups were invited to participate for free, there were costs for insurance, advertising, and materials. While these costs weren’t high, the support from NSG allowed the event organizer to focus on the myriad tasks and extensive communication required to bring everyone together. And it did bring everyone together!

With over 400 attending throughout the day, it was an excellent turnout for the small town of Nakusp. When it can seem that communities are disconnected and divided, an event like this shows that everyone can get together and celebrate our Harvest ‘n Heritage with food, fun, and most of all, friendly connections.
