Last month, we had planned and advertised a well-thought-out Autumn + costume party for our sober group that would turn out to attract only 1 registration. What a challenge! We had a beautiful pumpkin patch party planned with a local farm, games and a meal. With a flop in numbers, we had to pivot. Sometimes magic just comes together with less planning, and that’s exactly what happened with our sober bowling. Whether it was the welcoming atmosphere of the bowling lanes or just timing, we weren’t sure. But it didn’t matter! We decided to go simple, put a date out and ordered pizza from the local pub, messaging our sober group on Facebook and telling everyone to bring a friend or partner. We booked 3 lanes with the local bowling alley and our party registrations came flying in! (free tix on Eventbrite helped get us an estimated headcount.) We had so much fun, laughter, friendly competition. Folks attending were from ages 20 to 76 (he got a strike!!!) and were from Osoyoos, Oliver and Penticton. We are so honoured to join a network of thousands of project leaders across British Columbia who can be part of bringing our community together. We want to prove every time we get together that sober can be fun, and that the sober life is about connection and community. Magic really does happen when neighbours connect. Old friends reconnected, new friendships were forged. Thank you so very much for funding our sober gathering.
