Food Security 2025, 4 days of preserving healthy home grown foods and meals. 32 people attended this year, with many who had never preserved before! It was a wonderful experience to talk about the benefits of growing, harvesting, preserving and preparing your meals… from seed to plate! Not only was it great to discuss how to preserve safely but it was a hands on experience, removing the fear and mystery of the pressure canning process. It was a day spent sitting around the kitchen table, pealing potatoes, dicing onions, slicing carrots… all the while chatting – sharing experiences and helpful hints and tricks each has learned along the way. Or sharing memories of how our parents and grandparents preserved and fed their families. Stretching dollars and resources, wasting very little, while having wholesome food. This year we made sweet and sour chicken, chicken and gravy, and beef burgundy. Each attendee provided the meat, I had donations of canning jars, and the grant money provided for everything else. Thank you once again for the opportunity to share what I have learned with others in my community!
