We held our community get-together in June, and it was a really positive experience for everyone involved. The main goal was to create a relaxed space where neighbours could spend time together, reconnect, and strengthen community ties.

This year, we decided to have all the food catered, which made a big difference. It allowed everyone to enjoy the gathering without the stress of preparing or managing food. The cost was shared by community members, and we also used grant funding to help cover expenses. Having access to the grant made the event more inclusive and helped reduce the financial pressure on individuals while still providing good-quality food for everyone.

The event took place in the amenity room at Fraserview Cooperative Towers. It turned out to be an ideal location, offering a large, comfortable indoor space for eating and socializing. The nearby outdoor playground was a big bonus, especially for families with children. While adults connected indoors, kids were able to play safely outside, which created a relaxed and family-friendly atmosphere.

There were a few small challenges during planning, such as coordinating contributions and finalizing catering arrangements. These were managed through open communication and teamwork. Several community members stepped in to help with organizing, setup, and cleanup, which made the event run smoothly and reinforced the sense of shared responsibility.

Overall, the get-together was a great opportunity to meet neighbours, spend time together, and build stronger relationships within the community. It reminded us how valuable shared spaces and simple gatherings can be in bringing people closer. The experience showed that with cooperation, thoughtful planning, and support through grant funding, community events can be both enjoyable and meaningful. Everyone left feeling more connected, supported, and encouraged to continue building a strong and welcoming community.
