This fall, neighbours, volunteers, and community partners came together in Invermere for a FireSmart Community Clean-Up and BBQ. We couldn’t have asked for better weather: blue skies, sunshine, and plenty of smiles all around! Around 35 people joined the clean-up effort, helping clear branches, rake debris, and tidy up the forest area and common areas to make our neighbourhood more fire-resilient. After the hard work, everyone gathered for a community BBQ that drew about 50 people, with great food, laughter, and a chance to unwind together. The idea behind the event was simple: bring people together to make our homes and neighbourhood safer while building stronger connections between neighbours. Many hands made light work, and it was inspiring to see how quickly the piles of brush disappeared once everyone pitched in. One of the best parts of the day was seeing long-time residents chatting with new faces, and neighbours sharing tips on FireSmart yard maintenance. The BBQ afterward was full of good energy, a mix of gratitude, new friendships, and community pride. Events like this remind us that FireSmart isn’t just about reducing wildfire risk; it’s about working together, looking out for each other, and making our neighbourhood a safer, friendlier place to live.
