Our Summer Social brought together more than 40 neighbours, friends, and family members for an afternoon of fun, connection, and community-building. Residents of all ages came together to meet each other, spend time with friends, and build a stronger sense of belonging within our community.

The event was made possible through the support of the Neighbourhood Small Grants, donations from local businesses, and the help of neighbours who volunteered their time and resources. Food, drinks, dessert, snacks, and small prizes helped create a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere where people could share a meal and meet.

To encourage everyone to participate, we organized three simple and inclusive activities that could be enjoyed by all ages. We started with Drawful, a fun drawing and guessing game that quickly brought people together. Even those who were shy or preferred not to participate could join in by watching and guessing as an audience.

We then hosted a River District-themed trivia game, featuring fun facts about our neighbourhood and local services. This created opportunities for residents to share their experiences and learn more about the community we live in.

We ended with a cup-stacking competition, a simple activity that encouraged friendly competition between kids and adults. The games, combined with food and conversation, helped create natural opportunities for neighbours who may not have met before to introduce themselves and connect.

The event was a wonderful reminder that small, informal gatherings can make a meaningful difference in building community. Neighbours were enthusiastic and appreciative of the opportunity to meet one another, have fun, and feel more connected.

Thank you to the Neighbourhood Small Grants for helping make this gathering possible!
