I ran an intro to leatherworking class for a LARP (live action roleplay) group in Parksville called Lost Cove, which is a chapter of Amtgard International, and is free to join and participate.
I prepped for the class by purchasing a half-hide of veg-tanned leather and made several mask patterns based on requests from my class sign-ups (such as foxes, werewolves, and goblins). One challenge that I anticipated was time. It ended up taking 3 sessions for participants to finish the masks, which also meant the no-shows for subsequent sessions fell behind and needed extra sessions to be run. I probably could have avoided this by teaching a faster and simpler project, but the participants had a lot of fun and were very proud of their finished pieces.
