We live in the Heather Gardens townhouse complex in the Garden City area of Richmond. We hosted a neighbourhood block party and promoted it around our neighbourhood.
Some neighbours are connected through a WhatsApp chat. We used the chat to select the date and to divide up some of the responsibilities. The chat was also used to coordinate supplies, such as coolers, bbq’s, etc.
The turnout exceeded our expectations. The party had over 60 people in attendance! We were happy to see people from all generations: seniors, adults, young adults, teens and kids.
Food was enjoyed by all. Games were played, including pickleball, soccer, and tag games. We were all afforded an opportunity to get to know our neighbours better, which included new neighbours.
