I applied for a neighbourhood small grant to go towards a bbq at my complex. Our complex hadn’t had something like this in ages and I figured with some new families having moved in, it would be a nice opportunity to connect and meet each other. I received a 500 dollar grant and got to work planning! We advertised in the complex with a flyer which had a google form or email address to RSVP. I was surprised when over 70 people said they were coming!
The party was on Labour Day for lunchtime in the centre of our complex on the green space. I borrowed tables and canopies from neighbours and decorated a little bit. We decided to pivot to a pizza party to keep costs down, so had pizzas, chips and drinks for everyone. The pizza place, Yummy Slice Pizza, gave us a good deal and some neighbours also brought food to share.
Everyone seemed to enjoy it, people of all ages came including some new babies! Some people stayed for about four hours mingling and eating and chatting. Many people told me, “We have to do this again!”
