The event was a huge success, with over 100 people showing up for the BBQ and movie. We did not have enough food to feed everyone who showed up, but we still had snacks for the movie until those also ran out. This event has become something that the community looks forward to every year, and I’ve been able to get more help to coordinate it as I’ve kept running it. Some of the neighbourhood kids were even overheard saying, “This is what a real community is like” after the movie, which was very cute. I hope to run this again next year, and it wouldn’t be possible to put on an event like this where I don’t have to ask for any financial support from the neighbourhood and still provide a barrier-free event that is open to everyone in the community without the support of your program.
