Thanks to the support of Neighbourhood Small Grants, Mix, Make & Glow brought together 30 attendees at Surrey Central Library for an engaging and educational afternoon focused on natural skincare, self-care, and community connection.
Participants learned about natural skincare ingredients commonly found in their own kitchens and discovered how different ingredients can be incorporated into skincare routines based on individual skin types. Guided by a knowledgeable skin expert, attendees explored how to better understand their skin and created their own face masks using simple, everyday kitchen ingredients.
One of the highlights was the opportunity to learn from the skin expert’s years of experience. Each participant received a practical worksheet designed to help them identify and better understand their skin type, giving them a resource they could take home and refer to beyond the workshop. The session was rich in information, offering participants an opportunity to ask questions, learn new things, and build confidence in making informed choices about their skincare routines.
Beyond the hands-on activity, the workshop created a comfortable and welcoming space for people to discuss their skin concerns and share experiences with one another. Conversations flowed naturally as participants learned together, exchanged ideas, and discovered that community events can be a wonderful way to connect over everyday interests. Water, soda, and snacks helped everyone feel welcome and comfortable throughout the session.
I am grateful to Neighbourhood Small Grants for helping make this workshop possible. The support allowed us to create an accessible learning experience where community members could gain practical knowledge, try something new, and connect with others in a relaxed setting.
Mix, Make & Glow was about more than making face masks. It was about sharing knowledge, building confidence, and creating a space where people felt comfortable learning from one another. I hope to continue organizing community workshops that bring people together through creativity, practical skills, and shared experiences.
