Wow! Everything and I mean everything, came together to help us achieve our goal of creating a very special “space” to bee in the garden. The pictures speak to the level of detail that was required to bring the pergola into being this past weekend March 13/14. I am extremely proud of what we achieved and the incredible effort of everyone involved.
The “bee station” started out as a personal project to build a small pergola at the base of my garden plot. Thinking about the project in this way helped me to contain my ideas. When I suggested that the grant could be used for a bigger project, this was the real moment of lift-off.
A site in the garden was chosen in consultation with keen eyes, Lauren Bouchard (garden coordinator) and Lynda Melanson. Will Matthews, fellow gardener, and professional landscaper created a design, procured all materials, and developed a plan for us to follow and build the pergola in two days. The biggest learning was how fast the project came together with a committed team. On the day, we were a team of 3+ (Audrey Nishi, Vickie Critchley, Will Matthews, +Lauren Bouchard, whenever we needed her, while she juggled opening the garden) along with widespread support from other garden members.
In Phase 2, we hope to set up the greenery for the pergola to create a more private sanctuary.
Every moment, from beginning to completion, was memorable. Dreams do come true.
