The project took place at the end of May. I hosted a party at the community garden at my co-op in the River District. My neighbours always love to have a party in the summer, and so I took the lead this time. It was a community gathering and a gardening session. This year, I grew a lot of different kinds of vegetables, so I wanted to share them with everybody. Even someone from Burnaby learnt about the event and joined us and took some vegetables home, too! I made rolls, salad, chicken pasta and invited my neighbours and friends with their kids. The participants sang and danced. Everybody had fun and enjoyed it a lot.
For the gardening part, I bought soil, gardening tools, seeds and pots. I invited everyone to get a pot and some soil, then choose the seeds they wanted to plant. Both adults and children were planting and growing plants together. It was a fun activity for the family.
My garden also grew a lot of pumpkins this year, and some participants took them for Halloween!
