Thanks to the Small Neighbourhood Grant, our group was able to have another incredibly successful event this year. As noted in our request, our hope was to add more child-friendly attractions this year. Our wish came true in the form of a Monster Truck giant inflatable slide and bouncy castle. The kids absolutely LOVED it! Despite the cooler weather that day, we had more families turn up this year, likely due to this very eye-catching attraction. Similar to last year, we had a: potluck, themed games, cake walk and music for the attendees.
From this event our social media following has grown and our hope is to increase the number of gathering our volunteer groups hosts each year. This year we plan on hosting a Halloween costume contest, Christmas caroling group and Easter egg hunt. It honesty has warmed our hearts seeing how many families are driven to build a community for not only themselves, but their children.
Attached are the edited photos from the start of the event. We were so privileged to have a local photographer show up and offer 30min of her time to show the beginnings of an incredible day!
Next year, we hope to continue this event and build a greater social media following. Our goal is to create a network of parents willing to reset our community to a place where kids can feel safe exploring our neighborhood and building new friendships.
