Who doesn’t love Rubber Ducks? 50 rubber ducks were hidden around the Village of Ashcroft, along the main street, in parks and on the surrounding trails. Each duck had a number on the bottom of it with a corresponding envelope with a ($5 to $20) gift card from a local business in it. The Golden Duck was worth $60 Ashcroft Bucks (redeemable at any local business). Families and individuals wandered and explored searching for the hidden ducks. The event was supposed to happen over the summer, but the extreme heat we had this summer postponed the hunt. September was the perfect time to do it. We launched the event on the same day as our Fall Fair, allowing people to search downtown Ashcroft and collect their prizes during the Fall Fair. Almost half of the ducks were found that day! There are still few ducks that haven’t been found and returned yet.
Overall the event was a success – it encouraged people to get out and get active (one of the ducks was up 138 steps that have been made into the hillside of one of our trails). Everyone that came in was so excited to have found a duck. The local businesses were very appreciative of the purchase of gift cards from them. W
