We wanted to put on a local dog event for Halloween. We did it last year as well, and we called it Bark Or Treat. We have a large community of dog owners in our neighbourhood and wanted to bring everyone together to celebrate with treats for the doggos and the humans. Many of the dogs and humans dressed up for the occasion and lots of fun were had by all. We had some very eager pups who wanted their treats before doing their trick,s and frankly, how could we say no?
As we had done this event last year, we had figured out some of the challenges when it comes to planning, but we had to figure out the logistics of trying to bring a large group of people and their dogs together.
My wife and I love dogs, and we have 2 senior dogs of our own who are staples in our community dog park. We originally wanted to put this together to bring together as many people as we could and have some fun. This year, we had Bone and Biscuit informally join us as well, and they had their tent next to us, and we welcomed them, as a lot of our community goes to their pet store at the Station Square location. It was nice as they brought a lot of sample bags and treats for the doggos to liven up the event as well.
We also set up a gear swap/donation table for dog owners to bring their gently used/new dog items that they wanted to go to a new home, and that was very successful. Many people brought plenty of things, and whatever wasn’t chosen or picked up, we brought to our local community swap area.
Overall, the feedback was very positive, with many people already asking about next year’s event, so hopefully we can put it on again as next year will be our third annual event, hopefully!
