The Beacon Art Group was formed following a survey. I had been looking for ways to have the owners in the building come together for some fun activities and socializing. Luckily for us, one of the owners is an artist and had offered to give art lessons. Once we were approved for the grant, I formed a chat group with those that had already indicated an interest in joining. Others heard about it and asked to join also. I kept the group small as I wasn’t sure how much space would be required.
Our leader, Ilona, purchased all the required supplies and we met once a month for three months. Her goal was to teach us skills and ideas of art work we could do on own going forward instead of the usual paint night. Most of us were unsure as we began, but with Ilona’s guidance and encouragement our confidence grew and some discovered artistic skills they didn’t know they had. We all had fun getting to know each other.
Next time, I would make sure to advertise and include more people in the activity as I found that between illnesses and outside commitments, not everyone showed up every month, and there would have been room for more people to participate. This event was a great success and we look forward to offering it again.
