The Multicultural Women Peer Mentoring Group at South Vancouver Neighbourhood House held a “Beauty and Spa”event funded by Neighbourhood Small Grant on October 8, 2016. The event was planned and delivered by a dedicated group of women, who utilized their skills to organize the event. There were seven stations that the event participants could get free beauty and spa care treatments while being able to connect with others throughout the event. A group of women prepared delicious ethnic dishes for everyone to enjoy later followed by some yoga and dance to increase fun and entertainment for the event. Ninety eight people attended the event, and some of them received raffle prizes donated by the Multicultural Women Peer Mentoring group members. The event made a huge difference for our South Vancouver community members, they all came together to have a great time and enjoy the event activities. Throughout their involvement in the process of holding the event, the group of organizers gained not only a great experience of working on the project as a team but also a sense of belonging and connection with others. They are planning to apply another NSG funding project next year and deliver another successful event with a different theme that could bring our community together as well as make our community a better place to live.
