Bites, Beats & Retreats was pure community magic!
On Sunday, August 17th at Trout Lake, things kicked off around 5 PM. Even though the forecast had called for rain, the sun showed up right on time to brighten what turned out to be an unforgettable evening.
The vibe was easygoing and full of joy, music playing, people connecting, and plenty of good food to go around. The picnic focused on healthy eats, and lots of folks brought something to share, which created this beautiful feeling of care, generosity, and abundance.
More than 80 people from all kinds of backgrounds came together to enjoy the space, dance to the beats, and just be in community. Everyone was welcome, seen, and heard, it really was a space of inclusion and good energy.
It took about a month to plan the event. For promotion, things were kept simple, a friendly flyer/invitation was shared across different community groups of all ages, and it was also posted on the band’s Instagram. The budget was allocated for healthy snacks, kombucha, sparkling water, napkins, cups, a couple of tablecloths, and, of course, the band’s honorariums. Picnic tables were kindly borrowed from friends living nearby, and guests were asked to bring their own outdoor chairs.
One of the biggest challenges was the rainy forecast, but preparations were made — tents and tarps were kept on standby in case the lawn got wet. In the end, the weather turned out perfect!
Making this event happen was truly a collective effort. Alongside The Satyas and me, the entire community played a part, offering to help each other setting up their space, sharing food, and showing up with open hearts, ready for a shared experience.
The highlight of the evening? The Satyas! They kept the energy high with nine incredible songs, taking a short break halfway through to mingle and soak in the good vibes before hopping back on stage.
From bites to beats, it was more than just a picnic, it was a retreat into rhythm, connection, and shared joy. As promised: good food, great company, and the power of music!
