On Canada Day we hosted a lane way party and 45 of our neighbours came together, from young children to seniors, including a diverse group of Canadians and Korean, Phillipino, Mandarin and Cantonese speakers. To prepare for our event we visited each home in our two-block area and met all the neighbours while also distributing flyers in English and Chinese languages. Of the 23 homes on our blocks, neighbours from 21 households came to celebrate with us! We included activities for children such as temporary tattoos, magnets, sidewalk chalk, and frisbee. Canada Day decorations and give-aways made it a festive day. We all spent time together mingling and admiring our neighbourhood gardens, and some of us even exchanegd produce from our home gardens. Newcomers to our neighbourhood were warmly welcomes and we all valued the opportunity to connect. The event was a great success, hopefully to be continued next year.
