The project was to provide card making materials for seniors: birthday cards, all occasion, get well and keep in touch cards (or whatever they wanted to make). Card making kits were made up as ready to go projects and plentiful card/craft supplies were provided so Seniors could add their own touches. The sessions provided socializing, creativity, eye/hand coordination skills and artistic expression.
The first session was held to make birthday cards and the group decided appreciation cards for Canadian Forces members serving in Latvia would be a more rewarding project. (In November 2021 the HB Seniors made and sent 120 Christmas cards to the Canadian Forces serving in Geilenkirchen and Ramstein, Germany. In turn a card was received thanking them for their thoughtfulness.)
The Seniors were eager to return for each session and add to the number of cards to send to our Canadian Forces members. Over the remaining three March sessions there were 200 spring themed ;just for you; and thank you for your service cards completed and each card included a printed message from the Hardy Bay Senior Citizens Society thanking Canadian Forces members for their service.
The project was facilitated by Leslie Driemel and involved many hours of preparing card bases, tamping/colouring, cutting printed/stamped papers to fit and sourcing/donating bits and pieces to add to the cards and putting the kits together for the Seniors to finish.
