We live in a 100 unit townhouse complex. So there are many neighbours and many children around. There are always people moving in and out of the complex. Due to the busyness of life, among other things, it can be hard to get to know your neighbours. We decided to throw a community bbq on Saturday September 13th. Two weeks before, my daughter, a couple neighbourhood kids and I delivered paper invitations to all 100 units. We followed up by posting the info on our complex Facebook page a couple times to remind residents. A few neighbours wanted to help out in different ways so one brought out a personal bouncy castle they owned and others of us brought out various lawn games and activities . Families brought their own chairs. I bought all the food (hot dogs, buns, condiments, pop, juice, candies) and it was all provided for free (thanks to the grant). In the end we had over 60 people (including kids) attend and I think everyone had a great time. There is talk that we should make this an annual event and even neighbours who couldn’t attend shared how they’d like to participate if it happens again!
