After living on Chester St with my husband for almost three years we often talked about how odd it seemed that we didn’t know our neighbors. We both grew up on streets where the kids played together and the adults were friends. So when a good friend mentioned the grants program and we decided to apply and use the funds to bring our community together and start to create an environment similar to the one we were both so fond of from our youth.
Our expectations were low for the first event since moving into the neighborhood but the turnout was fantastic! Over 20 people including a number of kids spilled onto the street that we had blocked off and decorated with one of our new friends who had raised her hand to help. We bbq’d, donned our Canada gear and spent a lovely afternoon getting to know each other. One of the best parts was the feedback from our neighbors that this had been a great idea and they couldn’t wait for the next one!
Happy Canada Day Chester St!
