We planned in our rural neighbourhood a Community Day at Thomspon Park. About 60 neighbours gathered to eat pizza lunch, hear a local musician, and connect with one another. We had one neighbour donate 200 samosas, and another organization donated money for a honeyballs dessert. The local Regional Director came, as well as some members of the fire department.
The Chilliwack River Valley was devasted by the floods in 2021, and also people were in isolation during the pandemic, so this was the first Community Day we have had. We also did a tug-of-war and had a scavenger hunt for children. Neighbours were able to meet and connect – everyone enjoyed getting to know one another as we all live quite far apart, dispersed along a single road.
