Community Pottery Workshop Grant Report

Through the support of this community grant, I was able to offer two free pottery workshops to bring people together, encourage creativity, and make pottery more accessible to members of our community. As the owner of Monashee Pottery, I believe that working with clay is a wonderful way to explore creativity, learn new skills, and connect with others. These workshops allowed me to share my passion for pottery with people who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to participate in a pottery class.

Baby Shower Pottery Workshop – 8 Participants

The first workshop was organized for a group of eight mothers as part of a baby shower celebration. The goal was to provide a creative and memorable activity that the group could enjoy together. Participants had the opportunity to work with clay, explore their creativity, and experience the process of making pottery in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

The workshop offered a chance for the participants to connect through a shared hands-on experience. Rather than simply attending a traditional celebration, they were able to try something new together and create something with their own hands. It was a meaningful way to combine creativity, social connection, and a special occasion.

Children’s Pottery Workshop – 9 Participants

The second workshop was designed for children and welcomed nine participants. We focused on creating Halloween-themed pottery pieces, allowing the children to use their imagination and make their own seasonal creations.

In addition to handbuilding with clay, the children had the opportunity to try the pottery wheel. For many children, this was an exciting introduction to a new creative skill. Using the wheel requires patience, experimentation, and coordination, and it gave them a chance to discover how clay can be transformed into a functional or decorative object.

The workshop encouraged children to express themselves creatively, explore different techniques, and enjoy the process of making something by hand. It also provided an opportunity to learn about pottery in a fun, supportive setting where they could experiment and develop confidence in their abilities.

Community Impact and Outcomes

Together, the two workshops welcomed a total of 17 participants. Offering these classes free of charge helped remove the financial barrier to participating in a creative activity and made pottery more accessible to community members.

Both workshops demonstrated how pottery can bring people together across different ages and occasions. The baby shower workshop created an opportunity for connection and shared celebration, while the children’s workshop introduced young participants to a new artistic experience and encouraged hands-on learning.

As a small, independent pottery business, I value opportunities to contribute to my community by sharing my skills and making creative experiences available to others. The grant made it possible for me to donate my time and expertise to provide these workshops without charging participants.

I am grateful for the support that allowed these activities to take place. I hope to continue creating opportunities for people in our community to experience the enjoyment of working with clay, discover their creativity, and build connections through art.
